In a surprising crossover event that breaks usual predictions, the game developer has unveiled an virtual crossover between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the acclaimed anime series Attack on Titan. The unexpected holiday event runs from November 25 through December 22, including complimentary extra story content for Shadows players.

Mysterious Adventure Uncovered

According to the official release, "A strange meeting leads heroes Naoe and Yasuke into a new quest, where rumors of forbidden ceremonies and fearsome metamorphoses echo through the obscurity." The narrative features a "unusually attired woman named Ada" who tasks the duo with traveling into the Gemstone Grotto—a significant location from Attack on Titan—to save her ally from a secret cult.

The mission concentrates on "strange tests and a fearsome enemy" and is available to all players who have unlocked the Yasuke character.

Familiar Settings and Transformations

The preview features the Subterranean Sanctuary from Attack on Titan recreated as the Crystal Cave. This important location was formerly where the Reiss royal family handed down the Founding Titan ability through generations. The trailer finishes with a striking sequence showing a character, presumably the prisoner, morphing into a Titan that rises over Naoe and Yasuke.

Exclusive Rewards and Additional Material

Players who accomplish the mission will receive an exclusive katana alongside several items secreted throughout the area in concealed chests. The update also contains in-store Attack on Titan item packs, including:

• Titan-themed costume for Yasuke
• Mikasa costume for Naoe
• Unique weapons
• Survey Corps steed

Latest Free Story Update

This release also brings the game's newest free story content, titled "The Mystery." This playful mission partners Naoe and Yasuke as they exchange distinctive skills: Naoe reveals a performative interpretation of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke acquires non-lethal stealth takedowns. Loyal to its name, "A Puzzlement" also contains a new environmental puzzle that may finally shed light on some unanswered questions from the main storyline.

This marks hardly the primary time the Assassin's Creed franchise has partnered with well-known anime series. The series formerly included a 2020 cross-promotional story uniting Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga.
