Qatar's Sprint Race and Grand Prix Grid Setting: Live Updates

Introduction

Our correspondent will be here shortly to take you through this day's short race (14:00 GMT) and grid-setting session (18:00 GMT).

Real-Time Updates

Formation Lap Time

The formation lap has begun.

Circuit Details

We have 19 laps around the lengthiest track in F1, David Croft informs us.

Final Moments

The countdown is underway.

Racer Positions

An advantage in Max Verstappen's advantage: his teammate Tsunoda is ahead of him by one place. It's improbable to interfere with the team's main man.

Media Conversations

Sky speaking with Sky now: Gary Neville is with Mercedes.

The analyst is looking forward to the 2026 season, speaking with the engineer about his promotion to Aston Martin lead role.

Grid Details

Just 16 cars on the grid. This followed another bad qualifying for the driver: after coming 20th and last in the previous race, leading to an eighth position in the grand prix, he failed to advance of Q1 again on Friday. Ferrari have consequently adjusted to his car configuration and so he will start from the pit lane.

The team's Stroll and the Alpine duo of Pierre Gasly and Franco Colapinto are all starting from the same position.

Racer Statements

"We'll use the learning for the next day," states Hadjar, 11th on the grid. Expect a lot of that.

Team Standings

It's not all about the individual championship: The team have dominated the team championship but the team, with a forty-point advantage over their rivals, will be hoping to secure the runner-up position during this event. Russell can help them achieve that from second place, and Kimi Antonelli will begin immediately after the leader.

Past Performance

Oscar Piastri was victorious then – as he did the previous season, too. The driver from McLaren is attempting a hat-trick.

Sprint Race Value

Alright, approximately twenty minutes remaining until the sprint race begins. Barring disaster, it's greatest value is as a preview of what is to come, instead of highly important in its itself, with just eight championship points available to the winner. However, the runner-up spot here was enough for the driver to claim the title in a prior season.

Max Verstappen claimed the championship following his teammate's accident of Qatar GP sprint race.
